27 riders turned up for today’s Grand Final Graded Scratch races. The handicapper divided the field into 4 grades over the undulating 35km hot dog circuit!
D grade was sent of first followed by A grade, B grade and C grade following the main field.
The A grade race was a cracker with Brent Gibson testing his legs early getting away just after the Newbridge turn however was picked up just before the turn at Maryborough Road at that point the pace lifted and Tony Byrne found the going a bit tough. Brent Gibson went on to win from Brad Geyer and Andrew Inness in 3rd place.
In the B grade race former Sun Tour stage winner Terry Schintler put the hammer down early putting several riders into the pain basket! This narrowed the field down to 5 riders. As the group hit the hills Murray Rankin also tried to soften the legs of notable sprinters Ian Stringer, Brett Williams, Robert Gartside and Terry Schintler. This plot didn’t work as Schintler went on to win ahead of Robert Gartside and Murray Rankin in 3 Place.
C Grade was a hotly contested event with several riders trying to get away with Peter Ladd being the main protagonist in an attempt to soften the legs of notable sprinters Shane Dellavedova, Chris Wendy Draper, Jenny Geyer and Peter Body, however the sprinters once again proved to strong with Body winning from a fast finishing Geyer and Ladd in 3rd place.
D Grade saw the return to racing by Adrienne Tilling and she was award a 3 min time start over the rest of the C grade field only getting caught at the Newbridge turn point. Once again if come down to a bunch sprint with Di Jane just getting over the top of Lindsay Williams 2nd and Aileen O'Brien holding onto 3rd place.
Next weeks racing returns to the home of The Central Vic Vets at Woodstock for a 47km Handicap after several weeks of Scratch races.
