Leroy's finish-line video tells the story of today's 47 km Club handicap at Woodstock, run in cool but mild conditions.
After missing out the last few weeks, the scratch bunch showed no mercy to the rest of the 27-strong field. It took them a long time to round up the tenacious 2 minute bunch, then they overhauled the rest of the field just five kilometres from home after third scratch had gathered in the 8s and 12s and (very briefly) hit the front of the race. The cross-head wind on the run-in saw the bunch whittled down as, one by one, riders popped off the back of what at one stage had been a group of nearly 20. Andrew Innes tried his luck by picking up the pace on the last hill which stretched the survivors out into a long line. In the finish Brent Gibson (scr) was too strong and won convincingly from Brad Geyer (scr), recording fastest time of 1 hr 08 min 58 sec in the process. Chris Landvogt signalled his arrival as a worthy scratch rider by finishing third ahead of Jo Stolz (scr.), Paul Dalton (2 min), Andrew Innes (2 min), Mathew Grealy (2 min), Darren McKellar (2 min), Murray Rankin (5 min) and Robert Gartside (5 min).
