Today’s 56km Christmas handicap was sponsored by Nemisis Athletic Apparel. 42 riders fronted the start line with the handicappers dividing the field into 7 bunches.
The strongest scratch bunch assembled all year gave away 30mins to a 3 man limit bunch. In an unusual turn of events 4 riders from the 2nd scratch bunch did not make it to the start line on time which put considerable pressure on the 4 Riders that were ready to go, creating confusion weather to wait or chase!
By Newbridge it was apparent the the 9min bunch were on song as they had the 12min group well and truly covered picking them up before Tarnagulla, meanwhile the 2 second scratch groups had come together only to be gathered by the strong scratch bunch also at Tarnagulla. With The combined 9, 12, 15min groups finally catching the Limit group 3km shy of Newbridge on the run home, it was apparent it was going to be a drag race to the finish as the now combined Scratch 2nd bunch had the leaders in their sight!
As the leaders crested Woodstock heights Peter Ladd led out the sprint with the fast legs of Terry Schintler taking out a strong win ahead of Brett Williams. Murray Rankin raced home in 3rd place ahead of Chris Wendy Draper 4th, Mick Lavery 5th, Pam Robertson 6th, Shane Wall 7th, Greg Chapman 8th, John Annie Weir 9th and Peter Ladd 10th. Joe Stolz was the fastest of the Scratch bunch taking a creditable fastest time.
Today also saw presentation of the JT Aggregate winners sponsored by Jack and Jean Trickey. Brent Gibson winning the men’s aggregate and Pam Robertson winning the women’s aggregate. Brad Geyer was the worthy winner of the most improved rider. 4 new life members were also inducted to the club Noel Knight, Carl Phillips, Aileen O'Brien and Brett Williams were presented with their pins and shields. A big thank you to all that assisted with the day.
