35 riders lined up for the prestigious Nemisis cycling Apparel Christmas handicap at Woodstock over 56kms.
The handicappers divided the field into 7 bunches with scratch chasing 4,7,10,13,16 & 21mins.
Early in the race the 10min bunch lead by Sydney Anstee, Gary Ford and Peter Ladd set a cracker pace and had the 13min bunch well in their sights at Newbridge. Meanwhile the scratch bunch of Gibson, Geyer Inness and Grealy had only made 30 secs on the 4m group with Paul Dalton, Richard Mcintosh and ever reliable Darren McKellar smashing out some solid wattage, however were making little impact on the super strong 7min group lead Terry Schintler, Shane Wall, Geoff Bennett and Ian Stringer.
At Tarnagulla the 16m group were closing in on the limit group whilst the 10min group caught the 13min bunch and headed for home. However a big turn of speed by Geoff Bennett saw the 7min catch the combined 10/13min group on the a bends.
At the turn for home the combine 16&21min group still had a sizeable lead with Jenny Geyer, Wendy Bennett, Mick Lavery combining well with Haley Hayley Walker & Carl Bernadette Louchard and looked the goods. However it wasn’t to be with 3kms ( Woodstock Heights) to go the 4min group caught the full front field and started to set it up for the Win.
The sprint was always going to come to the wire with many notable sprinters still in contention Paul Dalton did his customary power kick and was strong enough to hold on from Rick Mcintosh and last years winner Terry Schintler in 3rd place. 4th was Phil Bone in his first appearance this year 5th was Chris Wendy Draper ahead of Darren McKellar 6th, Ian Stringer 7th, Russell Gilbey 8th, Dale Lowe 9th and Jenny Geyer 10th.
