Today was the Anniversary Handicap, marking 25 years since the club was formed back in April 1994.
A good field of 32 riders started in perfect conditions with just a light wind blowing into the riders' faces over the last 15 km. Ricky Lovell returned to racing - good to see him back - and Alan Sandford came back to the Club after a long break and rode off limit with Adrienne Tilling, the handicapper again opting for small bunches. The 6 and 9 minute groups were the early flyers but the former's chances were spoiled when Brett Williams punctured before Newbridge and the rest were overhauled by second scratch at the half-way mark. The 9s, however, maintained their momentum and caught the 13s before Laanecoorie and had rounded up all in front by Newbridge. This left the small scratch bunch chasing two big groups which turned out to be a bridge too far. The combined second and third scratch bunches couldn't make much of an impression on the leaders either, who sprinted to the line with no-one else in sight. Ric Richard Mcintosh (9 min) made it two wins in a month by beating John Weir (11 min), Shane Dellavedova (9 min), David Hare (13 min) and Mick Lavery (9 min) in the bunch kick. They were followed by Steve Auld (13 min.), Andrew Berry (11 min), Aileen O'Brien (19 min.), Darren McKellar (3 1/2 min) and Murray Rankin (3 1/2 min). Leigh Wallace led the scratch bunch home a minute later to record fastest time.
