A big field of 35 entered for today’s 47km CVVCC memorial handicap at Woodstock on the testing 35k Block and Maryborough road circuit!
The Handicapper divided the field into 7 bunches with a limit of 22mins. Scratch had the job ahead of them chasing 3m, 6m, 9m, 11m and 13min and limit. The 9min bunch were the fast starters quickly catching the 11min bunch after just 12km and then the larger group quickly set about chasing down the 13mim group. Scratch had second in their sights whilst the 6min bunch were caught in no mans land. The combined 9 & 11min groups caught the 13m group just after Newbridge and looked the goods.
At Woodstock heights the combined Scr and 2nd Scr groups caught the 9min group and being lead by Brent Gibson, Mathew Grealy, Andy Bos and Andrew Inness were setting a cracking pace.
Di Jane and Andrea Wilson were still out front and about to be swallowed by the 9 & 11min groups being driven by Chris Wendy Draper, Paul Dynon and Gary Ford however 100m before the Maryborough Rd turn the combined scratch bunch had hit the front and set about ensuring they were up for the win.
However They were not prepared for the handful of riders that were able hang on over the rolling hills home. As the went past Powers Road Robert Gartside hit out hard trying to catch the scratchies unawares however Brent Gibson took the initiative and looked the goods only to be passed by Mathew Laurie Grealy on the line for a fantastic sprint win ahead of Gibson. Paul Dynon was close behind in 3rd followed by Chris Draper 4th, Alan Pye from Swan Hill was 5th. Ian Stringer hung on for 6th followed by Andrew Inness 7th Rob Gartside 8th, Tony Byrne 9th and current club Champion Andrew Bos in 10th place.
