Woodstock Hall was jumping today when the Vets hosted the Bendigo Club juniors at the annual joint race afternoon.
The juniors raced first and faced a tough out-and-back course from the hall towards Newbridge, but they battled the winds bravely, and enjoyed some great competition. Their (considerably) older counterparts competed in graded scratch races over the 36 km hot-dog course. The good field of 23 starters, including one try-rider, was split into four evenly sized bunches. Due to the strong westerly winds breakaways were scarce, although the A grade field was split in half with the three eventual place-getters jumping away one by one. Brad Geyer won the sprint from Brent Gibson and Kris Gill. Most of the the B Grade field lined up for the sprint which Ian Stringer won narrowly from Ross McDonald and Terry Schintler, and it was a similar story in C Grade where Andrew Berry prevailed over Peter Body and Ray Colwell. D Grade followed a similar pattern to A grade with just three riders together at the end. Di Jane won from try rider Michael Piotrowski who was ineligible, so second went to Aileen O'Brien and third to Michelle Francis.
