Sportsco sponsored today's 47 Km handicap from Woodstock to Newbridge, Laanecoorie and return: thanks Sandy Agnoletto.
It wasn't a huge field despite the great conditions, and the winners on the day were ... the handicappers! The first half of the race was run into a cross-head or block head wind and then a tail wind after passing through Laanecoorie. Each group rode pretty much a team trial in the early stages, with Toni Lindsayand returning rider Roger King driving the 20s. The race only started to come together in the last few kilometres when scratch crept up on the combined four and seven minute groups on Woodstock Heights. They could see the remnants of the 12, 20 and 27 minute bunches up ahead coming over the final hill, but the leaders continued to drive to the line for Toni Lindsay (20 min) to claim an impressive victory from Ross Ogilvie (20 min) and Di Jane (27 min). Jo Stolz (scr.) launched from the next bunch to just overhaul Steve Auld and Pam Robertson respectively and claim fourth and fastest time to cap off a great ride. Ian Stringer, Dale Lowe and Murray Rankin from scratch filled the next three spots with Ray Colwell (12 min) rounding out the top ten. With riders from scratch and limit and everywhere in between featuring in the finish, ya gotta hand it to the handicappers!
