Another great days racing was held at Newbridge over the testing 54 km Championship course. With 35 starters and half of the starters from the now extremely strong backmarkers that have joined the vets.
The handicapper divided the field into 7 bunches off, 3m, 6m, 10m, 13m, 20m, and limit bunch of 35mins was sure to test the back markers.
For a while it looked like the 13m group led by Peter John Ladd and Jenny Geyer who rounded up the 20m & 35m group just after the Lannecoorie junction were looking good for the money, however Darren Lapthorne and his fellow scratchmen had much different ideas and hit the front of the race with 6kms to go. Lapthorn had more than 20 riders glued to his wheel when heading to the finish. Proven sprinter Paul Dalton after a big win on Wednesday night hit out early only to get swallowed up by the fast finishing Lapthorn and his band of followers. Charlie Fitzpatrick was 2nd, Jo Andrea Stoltz 3rd, Darren Jones 4th, Paul Dalton 5th, Brad Geyer 6th, Shaun White 7th, Shannon Meadows 8th, Chris Wendy Draper 9th and Darren McKellar 10th Darren Lapthorn was fastest time.
