Graded crits was the theme for the day with our hottest racing day since last summer.
32 hardend vets were divided into 4 grades at the brickworks Criterium circuit. 2 grades were run simultaneously with A Grade (40mins) on the circuit at the same time a C Grade (30mins) whilst B Grade (35mins) and D Grade (30mins) rode simultaneously.
A Grade set a cracking pace with Carl Harris and Scott Mcmanus getting away from the gun however the heat and testing hill at the back of the course took it toll and the race finished in a bunch sprint, Martin Banfield hit the group up the hill on the back straight however the ever improving Peter Cavallaro was able to roll over the top of Banfield 2nd and current club champion Brent Gibson finished in 3rd place.
The C Grade race was an attacking affair with riders constantly going off the front however with 10mins to go Tom de Vries and Cheryle Barker were able to get away from Carl Bernadette Louchard and Wendy Bennett, Tom De Vries went on to win solo from Cheryle Barker 2nd and Carl Louchard 3rd.
B Grade had the biggest field with 11 riders this made it difficult for any break to stick, last weeks Colwell aggregate winner Robert Gartside hit out early at the bottom of the hill however Chris Draper happen to follow Brett Williams around the corner for a 3 man drag to the finish with Draper taking the win ahead of Brett Williams and the ever improving Rob Gartside 3rd.
D grade rounded out the day's racing as was the case with all the grades, the heat was taking its toll, however the sprinters come to the fore with Jim Sandra Field taking the win ahead of the fast finishing Di Jane 2nd and come back kid Ross Ogilvie rounding out the placing in 3rd.
Neil Andrews won the presidents award for his constant attacks in the B Grade race.
