Today's event was an individual time trial with a secret handicap
Whilst there was only 16 starters the race held on the popular Lannecoorie circuit completed 4 laps over 34kms was action packed.
The field was graded strongest to weakest with 2min gaps. After completing the circuit the handicapper then adjusted the times deducting the handicap to decide the days winner. The big challenge of the day was for the officials, was to keep up with the lapping riders as Tony Byre had completed 2 laps before the last rider had even commenced racing.
Tony Byrne was first way followed by Mick Lavery, Ian Stringer, John Weir, Chris Draper, Robert Gartside, Ricky Lovell, Shane Delevedova, Nicky Rose, Adele Garwood, Pam Robertson, David Hare, Tom de Vries, Jim Field, Michelle Francis and Adrienne Tilling.
The warm conditions took its toll on many of the competitors and it was obvious that the riders with time trial bikes having a huge advantage in the windy conditions, the handicapper and his assistants taking this advantage into consideration when setting the handicaps.
Scratchman Tony Bryne proved to be the strongest rider on the day taking fastest time Honours. After the handicaps were taken into consideration there was only 9mins separating the winner and last place.
The final result after handicap adjustments was Ricky Lovell the winner on the day from Tom De Vries 2nd after riding past 2 of the riders in front of him. 3rd was Nicky Rose with another great ride, 4th was mister consistent Robert Gartside and 5th Chris Draper on the come back trail. It was great to have 2 lady visitors having a race today, Adele Garwood and Adrienne Tilling.
