The Central Vic Vets were very well represented at today's women's race at Learmonth, with Andrea Wilson and Aileen O'Brien figuring in the placings - congratulations to all - but that, combined with the less-than-fantastic weather - resulted in a very small field at Harcourt for the Bendigo Bank Dash for Cash handicap.
Four laps of the hilly 8.5 km circuit was a tough task with small bunches and there were a few retirements in the first couple of laps. Third scratch collared the 10 min bunch at the start of the third lap and they worked well together to stay away from the chasers, but lone limit rider Steven Bright (18 min) paced himself brilliantly to (just) hold the hordes at bay and record a meritorious win. Robert Gartside (6 min) jumped early to run second from Peter Body (6 min), Steve Auld (10 min) and Ray Colwell (10 min). Mathew Grealy (scr.) was next home about a minute later to record fastest time.
