Tonight's Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series handicap at Emu Creek produced an epic finish and a fair bit of drama around the course.
Thirty-three riders including two try riders started in perfect conditions. Scratch and second got tangled up with a long line of cars at the turnaround which brought the two bunches together and held them up for about thirty seconds. This proved to be the difference, after Hayley Walker left her 16 minute bunch compatriots in the last few kilometers and set sail for home to capitalise on the good work done by the group in staying clear of the rest of the field. All the middle bunches shed riders and very few could stay with scratch when they flew past and shot up the Exchange hill. When they turned into the home straight only Hayley was still in front, and she held on for a great solo victory. Darren Lapthorne led the scratch bunch home very soon after for second and fastest time, followed by Brendan Schultz, Martin Banfield, Brent Gibson and Damian Damo Hughes for a clean sweep of the places by the scratch bunch.
