Another strong field of 34 for the Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series race tonight with this edition sponsored by Bicycle Centre Bendigo.
Brad Steigenberger rolled up to keep an eye on proceedings and as it turned out had a pretty significant part to play. Scratch chased gaps of 3, 5, 8, 9, 15 and 19 minutes with the sole limit rider off 24. The 8s and 9s came together at Eppalock School to form a formidable bunch, despite handicapper Ricky Lovell missing the start and having to chase onto his group. The 15s and 19s joined forces as well but despite fighting on gallantly were no match for the big chasing bunch and were finally reeled in at the top of Exchange Hill. Behind them scratch, second and third were each separated by about 500 meters coming into the last five kilometres but couldn't rein in the bunch in front, let alone the leaders. Brad Steigenberger (8 min) was desperate enough to protect his sponsorship to take out the win in a great sprint from Steve Baines (9 min), new rider Steve Ligoli (9 min), Rob Gibson (9 min) , Mick Lavery (8 min) and Gino Abisogni (8 min). Brent Gibson led scratch home about a minute later to record fastest time of 46 min 59 sec at 42.4 km/hr.
