First night of the Cantina Bendigo Twilight series saw small fields contest four grades of scratch races round the Emu Creek circuit in blustery conditions.
A Grade approached the task with some languor in deference to the absence of sponsor Peter Cavallaro but fired up for the sprint which was won in convincing fashion by Martin Banfield with.Brent Gibson just pipping Noel Patrick Michael Hughes on the line for second. B Grade was a bit more spirited even though close to the full field hit the finishing straight together. Matt O'Toole continued his rapid improvement with a blistering sprint in the B Grade race, proving too good for David Cripps and Ian Stringer who filled the minor placings. The C Grade race fell right into Peter Body's hands as he was able to survive Greg Chapman's inevitable attack on the final hill to win comfortably from Greg with Steve Auld finishing third. The finale of D Grade saw Aileen O'Brien in amongst B Grade at the finish and acquitting herself very well to take the honours from Andrea Wilson. Don't forget the six o'clock start for all Cantina Bendigo twilight races.
