Grand Final day and an early start for the Vet's 35 km graded scratch races as part of the Bendigo Weekly Aggregate series.
Numbers were pretty good considering the day and the conditions, with a strong westerly making for tough going around the hotdog circuit and a head-wind finish. The A Grade field was small but fiercely contested, three going head to head in a sprint finish after no attacks stuck. Hudson Crothers took the win from Brent Gibson and Mathew Grealy. B Grade was a bigger bunch but similar results with no serious attacks on the way around and a bunch finish. Brett Williams showed he's lost none of his sprinting prowess to take the win from a fast finishing Chris Draper and Murray Rankin in third. The C Grade race was the pick of the day. After a few "faux" attacks (thanks Greg Chapman) and Pam Robertson suffering a mechanical, a group of five got away to split the race wide open. Peter Body led the sprint out and basically rode the field off his field to take the win from Greg Chapman and David Hare. The small field in D Grade got along at a fast clip after Steve Bright lit up the race with a five kilometre turn on the front, but he failed to take the edge off Ken Lacey who won from Di Jane with Steve coming in third.
