Oppy

All the arrangements for the Oppy are now in place. We want to make this a major event on the Club Calendar, so please come along to Rochester on November 12th and help keep the Oppy Legend Alive! See the attached flyer for all the details, and don’t forget to bring a plate.

Club Christmas Function

The Christmas function is locked in as well. We’ll be back at the Queen’s Arms Hotel on Tuesday December 13th to celebrate the year’s racing. Pop this one in your diary as well. RSVP to Michelle or Di.

Neil Blakely

Most of you would be aware that Neil Blakely had a spill towards the end of last week’s race. Neil spent a couple of days in hospital with a severely gashed fore-arm, cracked scapula and other bruises and abrasions which could see him off work for a few weeks. Considering all this, Neil is in remarkably good spirits and already looking forward to his return to bike riding. We wish him all the best in his recovery.

Safe Racing

Neil’s crash is a reminder to us all that bike racing can be a dangerous sport. We can make our racing safer by following the AVCC Rules of Racing (available on the Club website), and in particular:
• Holding a line while sprinting or winding up for the sprint:
• Keeping two hands on the handlebars, particularly during the final stages of a race when fatigue sets in; and
• Being conscious of the riders around you.

Vet’s Races in Adelaide during the TDU.

The South Australian Master’s Cycling Association will be conducting series of races during the time of the Tour Down Under in Adelaide in January next year. See the attached flyer for details. Further information is available on the clubs website https://samc.org.au/

Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series

The Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series kicks off next Wednesday night at the Emu Creek Tennis Club with racing commencing at 6:30 p.m. Dale has organised bigger and better sponsorship this year for weekly stakes and the Series Aggregates for both men and women. The series has both handicap and scratch races – see the Club website for the full program.

2017 Registration

Early bird registration is now open for riders who aren’t members in 2016 but want to take advantage of the extra few months racing by signing up early. Riders who are registered in 2016 should not renew their registration until the end of the year.

Coming Races

Good luck to Central Vic Vets entered in the Camperdown to Warrnambool next Saturday. The Club will be running graded scratch races at Newbridge for those not going across, followed by the Inglewood IGA Blue Eucy on October 22nd, Pilcher Brothers Team Time Trial at Laanecoorie on October 29th, and the Colwell Brothers Aggregate at Woodstock over the November 5th and 6th weekend. In between the Geelong and Surf Coast Club is holding their Open Handicap on October 30th. Lots of great racing to be had!
